October Retreat Exploring Your Potential FINDING HAPPINESS THROUGH MEDITATION Fri 18 – Sun 20 October, 2013 During the October weekend retreat, the focus will be on establishing a meditation practice that we may carry over into our busy everyday lives. Key components of sitting practice will be introduced together with the basic techniques available to us, even if we are complete beginners. Some of these methods focus on rendering the mind very calm, open and still, while others are geared to dynamically working with and transforming our habitual attitudes that so often suffocate and restrict us in our actions. The role of insight and meditational realization will also be discussed, so that we will have some hooks upon which to hang our emerging experiences. Underlying all the presentations will be an emphasis on Buddha Nature – our extraordinary innate potential to develop our minds from here – wherever we might be - up to full Enlightenment. The teachings and meditations will be conducted by Dr Ross Moore who is an experienced teacher based at Tara Institute in Melbourne. His presentations are always lively and lots of fun, even when serious topics such as “why do we have disturbing emotions” and “what can we do about them” comes along. Though the atmosphere will be informal, there will be several silent periods so that we can get a glimpse of what is going on in our ordinary mind! There will also be opportunity for group discussion and questions.
