Drove my 12-year-old daughter to a Halloween party tonight. Since she was dressed as a gothic witch, we listened to Bauhaus in the car. I unfortunately did not have Bela Lugosis Dead on my iPhone, so Terror Couple Kill Colonel had to do (shes heard it before and pretty much knows the lyrics). I told her that given she is 12 years old, its time we had THE TALK: I proceeded to make sure she knew that Bauhaus was the first goth group, and also the best. In time I will of course introduce her to Fields Of The Nephilim, Sisters of Mercy, The Cure, Siouxsie And The Banshees, and others, but I figured she better start out right, lest she have some crazy misconceptions about what goth really is.
