Drove to town early this morning for coffee.....enjoyed visiting with Randy Garrett....we solved some of the worlds problems, came back home and turned out the chickens.....Ol Burts still feeling good and crowing about fatherhood...he was chasing the hens around the pen and feeling his oats!.....Passed by a catalpa tree and was reminded of the summer days spent at the end of a watermelon row making my own fun....collecting cull watermelons that had been pruned off the vines ( they were pretend cows) and taking twigs and pinning catalpa tree leaves together to make a blanket to lay on the ground.....of course, you had to be careful to avoid the bullnettles! They could sting quite good! Early June in the watermelon patch offered a variety of excursions and adventures, while daddy plowed and hoed the watermelons.....soon it would be time to turn the vines and I was big enough to help do that!
