Drum & Bass has such a nostalgic effect on me. Looking back to my childhood, I remember all these instances where I was exposed to it, but I was completely unaware of what it was. I remember randomly hearing these intense, bass-heavy, high-energy beats contrasted by spacey, sci-fi atmospheres from video games, movies, and even from complete strangers in passing. I had many moments where I craved to know what kind of music this was that was so different from the music I grew up around. I didnt truly discover Drum & Bass until I was a senior in high school, and it astounded me that an entire culture had been developed around this music - all while I was still in my youth. To this day I still feel like Im playing catch-up for decades of music history that I missed out on. Every time I listen to Drum & Bass I get this inexplicable rush of déjà vu. It feels like Im re-discovering an essential part of my childhood that always eluded me.
