Dua is known as the weapon of the believer. It is the only thing - TopicsExpress

Dua is known as the weapon of the believer. It is the only thing that can change destiny. The Prophet peace be upon him said that dua should be the first and last recourse for a believer. As we see the atrocities happening around the globe, many of us tend to view dua as a last resort. We turn to our leaders in the belief that appealing to them will be a means of change. We exhaust all avenues and leave no stone unturned in appealing to the media, governments, each other, raising awareness on social media, all in the hope that this can bring about positive change. Even as these crimes against humanity are beamed around the world in high definition, they have been ignored and fallen on deaf ears. Have all of our attempts at bringing about change not taught us anything? Maybe these happenings are a means teaching us that we need to plead to Allah SWT and have full faith in Him first and foremost rather than Him being our last resort. Allah SWT has informed us in the Quran that ‘Your Lord does not forget’. A verse that brings comfort to the hearts of the oppressed and yet strikes fear into the hearts of the oppressors, that what is taking place today will not be forgotten. Sincere dua is an amazing weapon that is often neglected. The dua of Nuh alayhis salam caused the entire world to be flooded. The dua of Asiya, peace be upon her, as she was being tortured by the greater tyrant to walk this earth caused her not just to see her place in Jannah, but her soul was taken before her body was crushed by the rock. The dua of Musa allayhi salam caused the Nile to kill his pursuers. The story of Jurayj shows the impact that a dua of a mother to her child can have. The dua of Sa’id ibn Zayd, who made dua against a woman who unjustly accused him of stealing. He asked Allah SWT that she become blind if she lied and she did become blind. When Umm Salamah’s husband whom she loved very much died, she made a dua that Allah grant her something better than what she lost thinking this was not possible unti Allah SWT sent her the Prophet peace be upon him as her husband in response to her dua. One of the most amazing aspects of dua is how simple it is. You do not require money to do it like charity. You are not required to be in a state of wudhu like prayer. You do not need to be at the Kabah like doing tawaf. You do not need wealth like giving zakat. You are able to perform it while sitting or standing. All you simply need to do is raise your hands to the Lord and ask. From among the best times to make dua is during rainfall, when we break our fast, in the last third of the night, during sujud, on Fridays, before drinking Zamzam, and between the athan and iqama. Why does Allah not answer our dua? What is causing our dua to be ineffective? The main cause of our dua not being answered is haram sustenance. Someone asked one of the companions of the Prophet why his dua was always responded to and he said “I never put anything in my mouth except I knew where it came from”. Secondly, it is our disobedience and sins. Sins reduce the effectiveness of our dua. So while it is essential to turn to Allah in dua, this dua needs to be accompanied by making sure our livelihood and our life are in accordance to the rules that Allah SWT has revealed. We do not stop pursuing other means of help and support, but train ourselves to make Allah SWT our first call and not our last resort.
