#DubMonday #WorshipRecordings This weeks #DubMonday cut comes courtesy of the inimitable Mikey Dread, born Michael George Campbell. Beginning as an engineer and DJ for the Jamaican Broadcasting Corporation, he persuaded his bosses to give him some air time, and in 1976, the crucial Dread at the Controls radio show was born. Astonishingly, this was the first radio program to broadcast reggae music on the island without the labels having to purchase blocks of advertising time. The show, as you can imagine, was an instant success. After leaving JBC in 1979, Campbell shifted his focus to production, and in the same year launched the label Dread at the Controls, which released an abundance of heavyweight Reggae and Dub music through the years. This track, a dub of Earl SIxteens Dread a General, is taken from the album Dub Catalogue Volume 1. Recorded at Channel One. Instrumentation by the Roots Radics. Mixed by Mervyn Williams, Mikey Dread & Scientist. Produced by Mikey Dread. Dread at the Controls 1981 https://youtube/watch?v=XN7RJTdo2Qg
