Ducking in for a visit! The first Saturday of May saw the start - TopicsExpress

Ducking in for a visit! The first Saturday of May saw the start of duck shooting season in NZ. It also saw the annual influx of ducks, geese and swans to the ponds at the Tailings Storage Facility. Each year the birds drop in for a holiday, secure in the knowledge that they are safe, as guns are not allowed on a mine site. This increase in the bird population also increases Gary Choat and Anne Mazzetti’s workload. They are responsible for the daily and weekly bird count. We do a regular bird count as part of our monitoring of the flora and fauna on site. This activity is also part of our responsibility as signatories to the International Cyanide Code which requires us to monitor all aspects of cyanide management. *thanks to Gary Choat for the beautiful images
