Compassion : An emotion created by the misfortunes of others, followed by a desire to help, understand, or show mercy. Many times I feel as if some people, who are well, have forgotten what compassion is. Its not that we need sympathy or for anyone to feel sorry for us. We just need some understanding. Our illness has taught us a deep compassion for others and for what they experience in their daily lives. We reach out even in our pain, so its difficult to comprehend how people, who are well, can be so much less than this. I suppose I can appreciate the fact that Ive learned this very important thing, by way of my illness. It never hurts us to check on someone or to say a kind word to someone. In return it allows us the comfort of knowing , that with simple words, we lifted someone else in spirit. Words are powerful and the action of reaching out in kindness is equally powerful.
