Due to an unprecedented boom in applications to the Chelan County - TopicsExpress

Due to an unprecedented boom in applications to the Chelan County PUD for large amounts of power for upstart server farms, the PUD has imposed a moratorium on applications for large amounts of power. The utility has received 34 inquiries for power totaling 220 average megawatts. These alone are more than the 180 average megawatts now needed to power the entire county. This compares to typical annual growth in demand of between 1 and 3 average megawatts per year. The moratorium will allow the PUD to assess whether the incrased demand will affect sales of surplus power at higher rates to non-local customers. (full story available at wwrld.us/power-surge)
