Duke Energy. If that wasnt saying enough... I logged on this morning to confirm the amount of my previously-scheduled payment, to learn that my account was closed, and transferred into someone elses name. You see, in Rural Hall (next town over), there are apparently people who live in an apartment building at # Streetname PATH, and I live at # Streetname COURT. Apparently, Duke doesnt bother to confirm that they actually know what town they live in, nor what street they live on. It apparently has high turnover, as I frequently get mail for those people, who seem to think they live in Winston-Salem. So I call, and after being held, transferred, hung up on, calling back, etc., they confirm that my powers on. So whats the problem? The problem is, you did this before. New Resident will show up and discover that their power is not on. Theyll call you. Youll realize that they took over the wrong account. Youll activate their power, and remove their responsibility from MY address. And you wont bother to reinstate my account. Someone will show up - who knows when - and pull my meter head. The last time it happened, it was 90F, and 110% humidity, and my dog was already uncomfortable because she was dying of cancer. And it took a day and a half for someone to come reconnect, which they finally only did only because I threatened to go out and pull the head and reconnect it myself, when I was told a technician wouldnt be available untl Monday, because it wasnt an emergency. Well, I can go ahead and take an application for you. I dont think there will be a deposit. An application? A deposit? I have been at this address, paying this account on an equal payment plan for 10 years. You screwed up. Why should I have to apply to have you fix your screw-up? And why do you just take someones word that you should shut off my power? We didnt shut it off; they assumed responsibility for it. And when they *disclaim* responsibility for it, because they gave you the wrong address ... you wont bother to call me, youll just shut it off. Ill make a notation on the account to call you, and Ill see if we can reactivate the account. So, that was a productive hour and a half... UGH!
