#DummyHistory December 17, 1989 – The first episode of television series ʼʼThe Simpsonsʼʼ, Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire, airs in the United States. Created by Matt Groening, The Simpsons began as a series of shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show before becoming a full-fledged primetime animated series on December 17th, 1989. The series focused on the adventures of the Simpsons family and the many varied residents of the fictional town of Springfield. Its known for its comedy, satire and many well-known guest stars. It has been a huge hit, spawning lots of merchandise and a movie, and despite mutliple rumors since its debut, is not ending in the immediate future.
