During her trip to Lebanon last November, Foodgrains Bank Communications Officer Amanda Thorsteinsson met 13 year old Fatima and her 11 year old brother Muhammed. These two young Syrians recounted their love for soccer and playing with friends in their hometown. They also showed Amanda the converted chicken coop that they have been living in with their mother since fleeing the conflict in Syria. Five months ago, the family started receiving assistance from a project supported by Canadian Foodgrains Bank, and implemented by World Renew. The family receives food vouchers so they can buy food at a local grocery store. The vouchers allow the family to use the money they would otherwise be spending for food to pay the rent for their converted chicken coop home.
