During lunch I watched a bit of this documentary about the year - TopicsExpress

During lunch I watched a bit of this documentary about the year long effort for a young guy of limited means to build his own tiny home and the reasons why - mostly economic. He wanted to not only be able to afford a place of his own but to afford to be able to LIVE. If you didnt have a monthly cost for housing - think of all the freedom youd have. Perhaps youd be able to quit your corporate job and become a writer like my friend Laura LaVoie. Or maybe travel is your dream? I dont have a tiny home. Im now the proud owner of a (fixer-upper) townhome. But when we looked for places to live, we brought some of the tiny home ethic into our decision. Its a home that well have paid off in under 10 years. Its a home we chose not for size (MOAR IZ BETTER!) but because we knew what we really wanted and needed in a home. We arent falling into the materialism trap, but are giving careful consideration to everything we bring in or change in the house - it all has a purpose and will last to pass on to others. When people hear about the tiny home movement they assume, because they arent interested in living in a place smaller than 400 square feet, that it has nothing to offer them. I dont believe that to be true. If you have time, check out this documentary (which includes photos and interviews with tiny home people across the USA) on Netflix. Its an hour long and worth your time. (And now back to door knocking after this break out of the rain in Caribou - first hot chocolate of the Fall consumed today!)
