During my rotation in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, I had to assist with a number of baby deliveries, and experience the shock and terror that is witnessing a live birth. The mothers in labor would be summoning all of their strength and endurance to push as hard as humanly possible, while the husbands would be off to the side cheerleading or holding their hands and saying encouraging things like you can do it honey! and push harder sweety! After delivery, the husbands would be handed a scissor to cut the umbilical cord and would then triumphantly pump their fists in the air for their incredible achievement. And finally while the mother is recovering, theyd head over to their resting newborn and do this: i.imgur/YaEedqD.gif If I had a nickel for every time an over-excited dad would snap pics, take a selfie with their baby, or drop a phone on their newborn, Id have enough money to pay for my med school tuition.
