During the course of this ordinary work day, I was afforded a small window into the lives of three individual families in the course of a three stop day. The collection represented each graduated bump on the ever sliding socio-economic scale, but they each demonstrated love, projected kindness, and offered a wide array of conversational wisdom. As varied as the families so too were the services that each required. On most days, my partner and I are called on to perform routine home maintenance, improvement, and expansion, but on occasional calls, we function as an ear to the elderly, life coaches to the dejected, self esteem builders to the recently rejected. Over the years, we have developed a wide variety of repeating clientele. While many of the repeats do indeed require some of our normal services, many of them require things not typically advertise on the marquee. Saturday, I was contacted by one of my near centenarian customers. She has a recurring problem. Generally there is nothing that calls for a repair effort. She normally just needs a few hours of afternoon company and a pair of ears to interact with. Another client of more than a decade still finds herself struggling after a difficult divorce, and for her, the service requires no more than reassurance that good things are just over the horizon. She is a wonderful soul that has just lost her way. I see progress during each and every new visit. She uses the pretense of future projects to justify scheduling a consultation. Perhaps my most common repeat customers are those that need confirmation that they did indeed make a good decision to purchase their current properties. Our visits function more as justification for keeping their current addresses. They are mostly looking for an excuse not to move. Of course, in some small way, each of these things fall under the umbrella of our services, but they are all a step above the ordinary and mundane. It is this collection of customers that have kept me in the game! In some cases, I have come to realize family like relationships with some of these clients. There are many days that I havent the heart to charge them at all although they are all willing to pay for a service that was never physiccal in nature so much as one in the finer points of humanity. When a new customer calls, I never really know what awaits me until we get the initial introductions behind us, No matter the scope of the service, it has been and continues to be a rewarding ride that promises growth, satisfaction, and variety! Ooo-Rah!
