During the month of December we are looking at the prophecies - TopicsExpress

During the month of December we are looking at the prophecies concerning Christ in the Old Testament and the fulfillment in the New Testament. Today’s Old Testament prophecy comes from Deut. 18:18-19 and its fulfillment is in John 8:28-29. The prophecy - I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account. The fulfillment - So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am the one I claim to be and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me. The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.” In John 1:19-21 the Jewish leaders sent messengers to John the Baptist asking exactly who he was. He confessed that he was not the Christ nor was he Elijah or the prophet. And so the question we have to answer today is who is the prophet and what is his purpose? At the end of his life Moses told the people of Israel that God would eventually send a prophet like him to lead the Israelites. This prophet would obviously be a political leader as Moses and the spiritual leader which Moses fulfilled in his ministry to the Israelites. So, the Savior (the prophet of which Moses spoke) was to come and physically lead the children of Israel. That is why when Jesus made his triumphal entry into Jerusalem they proclaimed as King. But the prophet was to do more than just a political or spiritual leader. He was to be the mouthpiece of God. He was the speak that which God told him to speak. He was to act just like Moses acted on the mountain where he received the 10 Commandments and what he did when judging the people when trouble arose. So Messiah really fulfilled two roles, those being both spiritual and physical. So who is Jesus in your life? Is he your Savior but not your leader or do you try to follow him but not trust him for salvation? He needs to be both in your life. He needs to be your Savior and he needs to be your leader.
