During what is perceived as downtimes in social movements, people - TopicsExpress

During what is perceived as downtimes in social movements, people often turn on each other out of frustration. This is a common occurrence and is no different with Idle No More. We cant forget how powerful this movement is and that there are individuals and groups who work to divide and stop this movement for their own benefit. The good news is that in spite of this the movement is just as powerful as ever - regardless of what we call the work more and more people are educating themselves regarding the impact of colonialism on Indigenous self-determinations; people are rallying together to fight the termination tables (although we need more of this!), people continue the important work of defending the lands and waters. Dont be distracted by the interpersonal drama - it is happening for a reason. Instead, invite people gently to focus on our goals. Our goals are to put pressure on all people to begin using alternative energy, protect the land and water along with Treaties and Indigenous sovereignty. There are extra-ordinary things happening, lets focus on those than fighting each other. We have a beautiful world to protect and defend, lets focus on that. Miyotipiskansik niwahkewmakanak.
