Dursley RC randonnees (Audax) Just a reminder that the Dursley RC randonnees (Audax) take place on 20th September, and it would be lovely to see a few more Dursley faces around. Also I could do with a few people to help with running the event, duties detailed below. For those who aren’t familiar with this sort of event, a randonnee is a ride around a fixed route to be completed within a fixed (generous) time limit. Normally these are long distance events: ours aren’t too long but they are hilly. Pedersen 100: 106km, 2150m climbing, most of it on narrow and occasionally near-vertical Cotswold lanes: this is a real challenge. But you will get some of the best scenery in the area, and hardly a car in sight. We ran this first last year and everyone really enjoyed it, but it is definitely hard. Just think of all those hills you hate, they’ll be on there somewhere (for those of you who did the hill climb, you’ll be glad to know that it goes down Stouts Hill). There are a few route changes from last year, mainly to accommodate the Budding, but it is as hilly as ever. Still hilly, but one for the more vertically challenged, as this avoids the worst excesses of the Pedersen. Still plenty of scenery, as this allowed me to include some of my favourite roads which I couldn’t fit in the Pedersen, though perhaps not as dramatic. Probably beneath a serious cyclist’s dignity to ride this, as it is my attempt at an easy route. Round here we can’t avoid hills entirely, of course, and Frocester Hill is a significant proportion of the total ascent. Control at Saul, full details and entry at aukweb.net/events/detail/14-553/.
