Duxburys Myette is ESPN Boston Miss Hockey March, 24, 2014 Mar 24 4:58 PM ET By ESPNBoston Recommend0 Tweet8 Comments0 Email Print ESPNBoston and its High School section today announced that Rachel Myette, senior goaltender for the Duxbury Dragons, is the recipient of its fourth annual Miss Hockey award, presented to the top female high school hockey player in Massachusetts. The Miss Hockey Award winner was chosen by a panel of experts made up of ESPNBoston staff, correspondents and high school hockey coaches. Myette will be presented with the award at a later date. “During a historic run of four straight championship seasons, Duxbury has always had Rachel to rely on in between the pipes,” said Scott Barboza, co-editor of ESPN Boston High Schools and coordinator of the site’s hockey coverage. “She came to embody the consistency and work ethic the Dragons have showcased during their on-going dynasty. As one of the top goaltenders in the state throughout her four-year career, she is most deserving of this award.” Myette is the second Dragons player to win the award, following defenseman Martha Findley in 2012. She is also the first goaltender to receive our Mr. Hockey or Miss Hockey distinction. Myette was four-time MIAA state champion, as a four-year starter in net for the Dragons, leading them to three straight Division 2 titles before earning the Division 1 state crown this season. The three-time ESPN Boston All-State selection again finished with the best save percentage (95.4) in the state, while maintaining a career goals against average of less than a goal per game. While posting a 0.72 GAA this season, Myette turned in 11 shutouts, capping her career total at 39, including 10 post-season shutouts. “Rachel stepped right in as a freshman and, believe it or not, continued to get better as her confidence increased,” Dragons head coach Friend Weiler said. “She has backboned our team through her four years -- from the quiet freshman, who just did her job, to the senior captain, who was barking orders to her teammates. She is a great kid and a fierce competitor.” Myette will continue her hockey career at Quinnipiac University next year. “She was not only extremely consistent, but she also made the highlight reel save when we needed to take back momentum,” Weiler said. “The tougher the opponent the better she played. She always rose to the occasion and saved her best stuff for the tournament — a true big-game goalie. I have always tried to build my teams from a ‘defense first’ perspective and she was a wonderful foundation.”
