E-registration of rent agreement soon : Soon, you may not have to wait in serpentine queues for registering your leave and licence agreement. The state government’s department of registration and stamps is planning to allow you to register your leave and licence documents online. The department is also planning to gradually cover more documents in this e-registration process. Leave and licence agreements account for a major part of documents registered in Mumbai. Between January and March 2013, of the 8,923 documents registered in Mumbai, 3,316 were leave and licence documents. Of the 48,290 documents registered at Bandra, over half were of leave and licence. The option to register these documents online will offer great relief to people and take the load off the sub-registrar’s office. “We are planning e-registration of leave and licence documents. There will be a standard format for leave and licence which people can fill online… there will be no need for them to come to the sub-registrar’s office for it,” said S Chockalingam, inspector general of registration and controller of stamps. The format will have various options to be selected, like who will pay the property tax or electricity bill. Chockalingam said the system is undergoing user acceptance tests. “Leave and licence has been selected for the e-registration as it creates little rights, these rights are not highly sensitive…unlike ownership rights,” he added. However, the facility will be available only to those who have Aadhaar cards in order to add a layer of security to the process which would otherwise lack authentication
