EARS to the Ground How Should the Mayor Tackle Lawlessness in the City Ears are joining the Mayor in his bid to restore sanity in the city by tackling lawlessness. He should first of all start by banning all commercial ‘Okadas’ plying the city and secure jobs for the riders. The Mayor should work with the central government or the ‘powers from above’ and do what he deems fit for the city. He should employ more Metropolitan police officers although maintaining the current strength is a big challenge. Ears also believe that council should embark on various worthwhile projects to restore the confidence of the tax payers. Ears want to see a clean city of disciplined and law abiding citizens. . It is only when he does this that he can be seen to fight lawlessness Oil Dealers Reluctant To Reduce Prices Ears were amazed to learn that some authorities within government circles are defending Oil marketers’ stance for not reducing prices of petroleum products. Oil price has fallen in the world market sharply but marketers in Sierra Leone have refused to lower theirs. Oil prices remain the same and nobody seems to be talking about it. Ears have never read or experienced price decrease and it is just possible that the same old story will continue in this Republic, the reason the people of this country deserve better representation. Ears overheard the Chief Officer of the National Ebola Response Center (NERC) speaking in a cheerful mood over the Ebola success story in Pujehun District, Southern Sierra Leone. The District has gone 42 days without reporting any Ebola case, thus meeting World Health Organization (WHO) conditions. Ears’ worry is how long this will last when the district is surrounded by Ebola Hot Spots. The only advice is that efforts should be beefed up for this trend to continue and this is no time to celebrate. Ears have discovered that despite all efforts by government to provide safe drinking water for the communities at Kissy, some Guma Valley workers are bent on undermining these efforts by stealing water borne pipes for personal gains. Ears were informed that on diverse dates, Guma Valley workers used a vehicle with registration number ADG 685 to remove pipes supplying safe drinking water at Adolphus Street, Kissy. When queried by Ears they workers stated that the pipes were for use by one of their senior staff. NERC Upset by GSM Providers Ears to the Ground have been tipped that Heads of the Port Loko Ebola Response Centers have expressed dismay over GSM companies for failing to pay health workers through mobile money on time, a development that has result to resentment by junior workers in the district. Ears observed that because health workers have not been paid for two months now, the fight against Ebola in Port Loko District has lost its intensity. Ears also learnt that the public is complaining mobile companies for failing to reduce their tariffs.
