EARTH QUAKE AND THE END TIMES On 4th July 2013, there were three episodes of tremor (minor earth quake) in Kampala and the surround areas. People around this part of earth have never had the bad experience of earth quake the way it frequently occurs in Asia. We simply watch the devastation of earth quake on our television screens. I was a hearer of a conversation about this tremor in a commuter taxi. Two passengers engaged in a conversation or may be a debate on ‘suppose an earth quake occurred and woke you up from sleep would you run outside the house? An interesting question!! In the Bible, earth quake is a sign of God’s power. And please if you don’t believe in the God of the Bible- Yahweh, this discussion may not benefit you much unless you can have a change of perception. Earth quake is motioned a number of times, but lets examine just one! Revelation (of John) 16:15-21 Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.” 16Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon. 17The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake. 19The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found. 21From the sky huge hailstones, each weighing about a hundred pounds,a fell on people. And they cursed God on account of the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible. Earth quake is a perfect example of what takes us completely unawares! Its done! This means its over, apart from my co passengers perspective of earth quake, God in his mercy reminds us of his power and majesty in may forms. Earth quake is one such powerful reminder of God’s power. The above section of the Bible was a revelation to John of what shall happen on the final Day of Judgment! Verse 19 says the great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. If my co passengers had read this, they would know that an earth quake does not give one an opportunity to run!! Because every island flees away and the mountains can not be found. God’s final judgment starts with one step to put everybody at the same level. God erases every source of glory, power and prestige man has by a powerful earthquake. There the fate of every body is left dependent upon only one remaining thing; one’s relationship with God. An earth quake is a reminder to me that there is a judgment day coming for all humanity one day. Apart from worrying about your current safety, worry about the aftermath of the earth quake. Will you be taken to the earth quake free zone or doomed with the ruins of the earth quake? Obokello Noah.
