EAST COAST LOW -- Severe Weather Warningfor damaging winds, heavy rainfall and damaging surffor people in the Metropolitan, Mid North Coast, Hunter and Illawarra forecast districts Issued at 2:48 pm EDT on Monday 13 October 2014.HEAVY RAIN, DAMAGING WINDS AND DAMAGING SURF FOR THE HUNTER, CENTRAL COAST, SYDNEY AND ILLAWARRA COAST ON TUESDAY. Weather Situation A frontal system is currently moving across NSW, with an East Coast Low pressure system likely to develop offshore from the Hunter Coast tonight or on Tuesday morning. The low will intensify and remain slow moving offshore from the Hunter or the Mid North Coast on Tuesday, before slowly moving further out into the Tasman Sea on Wednesday.DAMAGING WINDS around 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 110 km/h are forecast to develop during Tuesday afternoon for the coastal fringe of of the Metropolitan, Hunter and Illawarra forecast districts.Thunderstorms and heavy rain which may lead to FLASH FLOODING are forecast to develop in the afternoon and evening for the Hunter forecast district and for the far south of the Mid North Coast forecast district. Widespread falls of 40 to 70mm are expected in this area, with locally higher falls of 100 to 150mm.VERY HEAVY SURF which may lead to localised damage and coastal erosion is forecast for the Metropolitan, Hunter and Illawarra forecast districts. Beach conditions in these areas could be dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas.The State Emergency Service advises that people should:Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.Keep clear of fallen power lines.Dont drive, ride or walk through flood water.Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.The next warning will be issued by 11:00 pm EDT Monday.This warning is also available through TV and Radio broadcasts; the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 218.The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate this warning being broadcast regularly. bom.gov.au/nsw/warnings/severe.shtml
