EASTERN PROVINCE : THE TRICKY PROVINCE Dear friends good evening, for two days now hav been searching and getting imformation on the tricky part of zambia eastern province. Why is eastern tricky? When UNIP lost power our brothers and sisters continued voting for unip till late 1990s when mmd changed its leadership. Mmd gripped eastern when mwanawasa became president and later got consolidated when RB was made veep. CURRENT STATUS: eastern is dominated by mmd mps. In chipata pf failed to take the seat two times. David phiri resigned from mmd and recontested on pf, stil the mmd took it. Kasenengwa seat was nullified by supreme court victoria kalima recontested and won again on mmd ticket. RESULTS OF MY SEARCH the province is now dominated by pf and upnd. The urban population is reportedly shifted its allegiance from mmd to pf backing their son of the land edgar lungu but the competitive atmosphere is stil prevailing with upnd. One would hav expected the entire province to rally behind lungu but others hav opted to endorse hh like the two mps for mkaika and sinda constituencies. And katete mmd district executive has also endorsed hh. The rural parts of the province is where the tricky is. According to my source on the ground who has been to several places on ECZ programme in the deep rural of the province reported that the ruling party will face a stiff challenge by upnd which has won the hearts of most farmers and general population in those places. Many of u who follow events in zambia would agree with me that farmers in chipata almost rioted for late payment of their dues . My source briefed me that the revolt mood among farmers is stil alive CONCLUSION Eastern is so tricky in terms of voting. It wil be interesting to see how people wil vote especially that lungu is now backed by their darling son RB. GUD NITE
