EBUSC Alumni College Roundup DIVISION I MEN’S SOCCER Big West Conference Noah Gaines and UC Irvine sit at #14 in the NSCAA rankings, down from #4 the week before, after dropping two Big West matches last week. The Anteaters are 11-3-2 overall, but just 3-3-1 in conference play, with three matches left in the regular season. They’ll need a strong finish over that three game stretch to qualify for the Big West conference tournament. Gaines is a starter on the squad and a key player on the back line. Meanwhile in the Northern Division of the Big West, freshman Matt Baringer and UC Davis are at the top of the standings with three games to go. West Coast Conference Three Bay Oaks alums are on the roster at Santa Clara, with juniors Max Ornstil and Dylan Autran entrenched as starters on the squad. Babacar Diallo is earning his stripes as a freshman, seeing the field in a couple of games this season. The West Coast Conference doesn’t hold a conference tournament, so the remaining two and a half weeks of the season will include 5 regular season matches and the conference standings have a long way to go until they take their final shape. Currently the Broncos are tied with 4 other teams holding a 1-1 record, while two teams sit undefeated at 2-0. Pac12 Conference Cal enjoyed a bye week to rest and recharge heading into the stretch run of Pac12 play. Without a conference tournament, the regular season results will crown the conference champion. Currently, the Bears and senior Max Oldham are 8-3-1 overall and in 4th place with a 2-2-1 conference record. The University of Washington sits in second place in the Pac12, with an 11-3-1 overall record and 4-2-1 record in conference play. Charlie Ranahan is a senior for the Huskies and looks to take his team far in his last collegiate campaign. DIVISION II WOMEN’S SOCCER California Collegiate Athletic Association The CCAA tournament will start on Sunday, November 2nd, but postseason spots are still up for grabs. The regular season concludes on Thursday, October 30th and several key matches remain on the slate to determine the top-six teams who will qualify for the tournament. After sprinting out to a 10-0 start, Sonoma State has hit some speed bumps and now find themselves fighting to get into the CCAA tournament. The Seawolves are 13-4 overall and 6-4 in CCAA play, which puts them in 5th place with one game remaining in the regular season. A win secures them a spot in postseason play and a group of Bay Oaks alums will do their part in reaching that goal. Alex Sifuentes has 4 goals and an assist on the year, while twin sister Cecilia has started all 17 games on defense this season. Alex Arandia also plays for the Seawolves and Kesy Platt is taking a red-shirt year. Reyna Buzon and the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors are also fighting for their playoff lives, but they will need some assistance. A win or tie in their final game is needed, plus some help from other squads to get that #6 spot in the tournament. Darby Nordin is a sophomore for Chico State, who has already qualified for one of the spots in the CCAA tournament. The Wildcats are 10-4-2 overall and 7-2-1 in conference play, good for 2nd place heading into the final game of the regular season on Thursday. DIVISION III WOMEN’S SOCCER Liberty League Rory Chipman and Vassar College control their own fate in the Liberty League. With a win in their final regular season game on Saturday, they can earn a trip to the postseason (and a match against defending NCAA DIII Champion, William Smith). Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Aminah Luqman has been out this season with a knee injury, but Pomona-Pitzer is poised to earn a spot in the SCIAC tournament. Currently tied for third place, they need a point out of their next two games to clinch a berth and can move as high as first place with two wins and some help. Also looking to grab a spot in the SCIAC tournament, and her first taste of postseason play, is senior Abigail Mitchell at Occidental College. Occidental is tied with Pomona-Pitzer in third place and also needs just one point to guarantee itself a spot in the tournament field. North Coast Athletic Conference Gen Eng-Surowiec and Denison University have clinched a spot in the NCAC tournament. With one game remaining in the regular season, they stand in third place with a 12-5 overall record and 5-2 in conference play. Gen is a senior defender who has started all 17 games for the Big Red.
