ECI reviews election expenditure mechanism with CEO, DEOs, Observers JAMMU, DECEMBER 12: Director General (DG), Election Commission of India, Mr. P.K. Dash, today reviewed the election expenditure mechanism in four districts of State viz Samba, Srinagar, Anantnag and Shopian which are going to poll in the fourth phase of Assembly Elections on December 14. The DG obtained detailed report from Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), J&K, Mr. Umang Narula, District Election Officers (DEOs), SSPs and Expenditure Observers of concerned districts through video conferencing. He issued strict instructions to all concerned to keep a close watch on the expenditure incurred by the candidates on organizing election rallies and other activities related to the election process. The Observers must monitor the expenditure registers maintained by the candidates and ensure that set procedures and instructions of the Election Commission of India are followed, he added. Calling upon the DEOs to activate the flying squads in their areas for preventing the use of liquor and money in the election, the Director General directed the concerned for taking stringent steps to check such types of allurements by the candidates for vote. He called for stepping up vigil on the activities of the unscrupulous elements which can foment trouble during the elections. He also called for ensuring ethical voting practices to improve the turnout. The CEO, DEOs, SSPs and Observers gave detailed account of the steps put in place to prevent illegal use of money and liquor amongst the public during the election. It was informed that the official machinery has been further beefed up and flying squads are keeping a close watch on the situation in a systematic mechanism. They assured the ECI authorities that instructions will be followed in letter and spirit to ensure free and fair election in the fourth phase. Deputy CEO, Mr. Rakesh Kumar Srangal, Election Consultant, S. Harcharan Singh, Inspector General of Police, Mr. H.K. Lohia and officers of Sales Tax and Excise Department were also present during the Video Conference.
