EDWARD LOUIS HARMS 1934 - 2015 | Obituary | Condolences EDWARD LOUIS HARMS Obituary WILDWOOD - Edward Louis Harms, 80, died peacefully at home on January 18, 2015. He was born March 30, 1934 in Chicago to parents Valentine and Mae Heller Harms. He grew up on the South Side of Chicago and attended Calumet High School and maintained close friendships through the years with many of his high school friends. He served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Okinawa. After the service, he completed his education at Northern Illinois University with a degree in business. It was there in DeKalb that he met his future bride and on September 5, 1959 made the best choice of his life by marrying Darlene, who was his devoted, loving and patient partner for over 55 years. He was also the best Dad in the world to Jodi (Gil) Thors, Randy (Rose) Harms, and Jill (Mark) Tiffany and No. 1 Papa to grandchildren Erik, Lauren, Darren (DJ) & Diamond and best next-door uncle to Ryan, Jordan & Austin. He will also be greatly missed by dear cousins Frank (Marilyn) Cullen, Joan Heller and many nieces, nephews and cousins of the Harms/Heller/ Cullen/Roach Clan who will always hold a special place in their hearts for Uncle Ding. Ed enjoyed his work as a life insurance agent with American United Life Insurance Co. in Libertyville for nearly five decades. He was a longtime member of The Exchange Club of Gurnee. An avid photographer (he was never without his camera!), he took pictures at Exchange Club events, family gatherings and his childrens and grandchildrens many sporting events and other activities. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading or just sitting in the sun on a warm summer day. In 2001 Ed was the lucky recipient of a brand new heart and his heart certainly encompassed everyone he met. He was a caring friend, loving husband & father and will be missed immensely by so many. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 24th from 12-2PM at the Wildwood Presbyterian Church, 18630 West Old Gages Lake Road, Grayslake, Illinois. There will be a 2PM Memorial Service following the visitation.
