EEL ENERGY LONDON-PARIS, 25 November, 2014 EEL ENERGY, nominated among the top ten most innovative companies in France by E&Y in July 2014, has achieved a breakthrough in its renewable marine energy generation technology with a unique undulating membrane and patented converter. The EEL ENERGY solution will provide the market with the possibility of accessing 1000 times more sites worldwide compared to the existing turbine systems with a comparatively lightweight solution working in slow motion at a low cut-in speed of 0.5 m/s with an optimum at 2.5 m/s. The conversion of the hydro kinetic energy into mechanical energy is generated by the deformation of the membrane and the energy is converted on the membrane through an innovative low frequency linear dynamo. The Technological advantages of the EEL ENERGY solution are: • No Betz limit which restricts the propeller system • Low cut–in speed (0.5 m/s) • Low wake level • No problems of cavitation • The convectors adapt to the current to optimize power generation. • Proving to be a more effective technology than conventional turbine The Economic advantages of the EEL ENERGY solution are: • Breakthrough technology protected by five patents • More zones of exploitation accessible than any other solution (X1000) • Automatic orientation to the direction of the current • Increased profitability and ROI • Higher concentration of machines • Possibility of higher power up to 5 MW • Very competitive cost of KWh production • Can be installed near the coastline • Reduced maintenance costs • Other potential market uses include river energy exploitation, hydro generators, domestic, boats and the manufacture & sale of converters tailored for specific solutions Franck Sylvain, CFO of EEL Energy says “Our solution is based on what we call BIOMIMICRY - reproducing the natural properties of biological systems. After all, propeller systems do not exist as a source of power in nature and the movements to generate power among marine life are based on undulations, this gave us the idea for EEL Energy. Our strategy is to exploit tidal, oceanic and even river currents and our big advantage compared to wind farms is that our natural resource is predictable and as a result we know when and how much clean energy we are going to produce. We will be able to exploit the multitude of accessible oceanic and tidal currents around the world, an exciting prospect for a 100% ecologically sound clean energy generating solution that has no visual impact, makes no noise and will have zero impact on fauna, zero waste and no CO2 generation.” EEL ENERGY will have its Prototype Scale 1/1 at the end of June 2016 and sea trials will begin in Scotland in the second half of 2016. Three additional Scale 1/1 prototypes will be available by the end of 2017 before certification and eventual deployment. Total target funding is 15 million euro and Franck Sylvain said that he had already received very positive indicators of commitment from France, Switzerland, the US and several South American countries and had been contacted by several interested parties in the Asia Pacific region. In his view “This breakthrough is not an evolution in marine clean energy generation, it is a revolution!
