EFA. Education For All has been working with Bachpan Bachao Aandolan for over a decade on the issue of child labour. This is a dirty secret about India that India does not want to admit too. We have children working at our homes as servants. We mistreat them, beat them and abuse them. We go to restaurants where children wash dishes, buy carpets made by children, our kids play with footballs stiched by children. ..we know but we shamelessly turn a blind eye...we pretend we dont know. I called child services on my mother and my neighbour for employing children for house work. The irony is that while an Indian and a Pakistani have been awarded the Nobel Peace prize both nuclear powers are at war. Each country has some of the poorest people in the world, but chose to ignore the societal ills like child labour and education for girls and the murder of baby girls just because they are not boys. Both India and Pakistan have spent over a billion dollars each to fuel their nuclear and arms industries, rather than focus on critical issues like sanitation, heath and education. This is not a moment of pride for these two nations. It is a moment of shame for both countries, that it required a third country to focus its microscope on the maggots infesting the gory innards of these two countries.
