EGYPT; 26 November; Controversial protest law leads to call for demonstration Egypts interim president Adly Mansour signed a protest law on 24 November. Among the new tenets of the legislation, it will prohibit protests at religious sites and gatherings that proceed without requisite permission. The new law has been criticised by a range of political parties, including the Salafist Nour Party, Egyptian Movement for Change (Kefaya), the Free Front for Peaceful Change, 6 April Democratic Front Movement and a number of human rights organisations. Further to this, the 6 April Democratic Front Movement has announced that it will hold a protest in opposition to the law; this will take place outside of the Shura Council in central Cairo on 26 November. Kefaya has also stated that it will hold protests in opposition to the law; details regarding times or locations have not been specified.
