EKITI POLITICS IN DEMOCRACY OR CIVILIAN AUTOCRACY I have been - TopicsExpress

EKITI POLITICS IN DEMOCRACY OR CIVILIAN AUTOCRACY I have been following Ekiti Politics passively, but keenly. I am aware of 3 major candidates belonging to APC, LP and PDP who are vying for Ekiti Governors Seat. I followed the process of their emergence and subsequent events till today and I have the following to say; Election is not a war. In war, the belligerants reffer to each other as ENEMY, but in Election, the contestants reffer to each other as OPPONENT. While enemies require arsenal and combatants to achieve success, Opponents require manifesto, antecedent and candour. A candidates process of emergence matters as it could be a source of blessing for one but could be the ghost that would haunt another to failure. Someone who can go for Primaries boldly is confident of his supporters and followers and also sure of the voters. Couple with this, it is the due process of electioneering and it is democratic. But he who depends on cooked up Consensus Candidacy is deficient somehow and leans towards autocracy. When a candidate is imposed in a process christianed Consensus, it is a faulty electoral process and a recipe for Electoral Irregularity which could lead to Insecurity. Such Group would very likely rely on rigging, intimidation and abuse of office to win the real Election. What we want to see practice is Democracy, not mere Civilian Governance. Whilst wishing the candidates the best of luck, I declare YES to DEMOCRACY and NO to CIVILIAN AUTOCRACY.
