EKITI STATE ELECTION: THE SUICIDE OF APC AND THE RE-BIRTH OF PDP, - TopicsExpress

EKITI STATE ELECTION: THE SUICIDE OF APC AND THE RE-BIRTH OF PDP, MY CANDID ADVICE TO MR. PRESIDENT Ekiti state is about the only State in the whole of South West with strong steadfastness and assertiveness when it comes political direction. It will take a battalion of Army for any government to intimidate them against their collective will. Such may not even move their doggedness. This is not just happening today. History has it that even during Awolowo regime as Premier of the Western Region, he toyed little with the freedom of choice of the Ekiti People. One thing is constant and sacrosanct about them, they are not wheel barrows that anyone, no matter your position, can push around against their wills. Very strangely though, they often put their individual strengths together to fight a common enemy even if those forming the alliance arent necessarily of the same political affiliation. Prior to today, since this political dispensation, Ekiti has never voted, in succession, the same candidate twice in governorship election. Power of imcubence has never influenced their choice of candidate. They often use a different criteria to pick who their leader will be. Call it dynamism, you wouldnt be wrong. What influences their choice today may not necessarily be the reason for tomorrows choice. More often than not, they are not too fantasised by the cajole of party claims of progressiveness, if they have no confidence in the partys flag bearer nor convinced by the. Partys posture. Ekiti people have a peculiar political ideology and you cant take that for granted. Those who have been practising politics in the state know all these unique characteristics and have never found any magic to change the status quo. Im going to make particular reference to the just concluded PDP governorship primary election in the state and the likelihood of an upsurge in the present political arrangement in the state and by reference, the entire. South West at large. Mr. President will recall that recently, you sent emissary to Mr. Aborishade, a former Aviation Minister and a PDP stalwart in the State to give you on-the-field assessment of the chances of the PDP in the state with respect to who can be the best candidate to fly PDP ticket in this years governorship election particularly. Im not going to discuss details of what he (Aborishade) presented to you as the situation, a position that has now been faulted by the landslide victory of Oshokomole of Ekiti State in the primary election. For those who truly know who Fayose is and those who always deliberately downgrade his influence in the state politics, the outcome of Saturday 22nd primary election results has laid credence to inevitable importance of Oshokomole APC SUICIDE Prior to Governor Fayemis eventual emergence as the authentic governor of the state, (based on Court of Appeal ruling Fayose had pitched his tent with ACN (as it then was) and had done everything for their emergence even against his own party, having suffered rejection and frustration from the cabal that controlled the mafia ship of the then PDP. He made several pubic statements to support the ACN candidate (Fayemi) claiming JFK was the authentic winner of the 2007 governorship election, the seat that was hitherto occupied by Engr. Segun Oni of PDP. True to his efforts, Fayemi reclaimed back the stolen mandate from Segun Oni. Their partnership worked and agreement was reached to concede the Ekiti Central Senatorial seat to Fayose who was to contest under Labour Party come 2011. ACN betrayed that pact and gave the ticket to Ojudu, one of Tinubus yes sir boys. Disappointed and dejected, Fayose then found himself in the middle of no where. Having defected to Labour party earlier when he had problems with PDP Mafias, he was left and abandon like a political orphan without orphanage to abode in. No particular destination but there was obvious determination in him to regain his balance. Oshoko eventually picked his pieces from the betrayal of the so-called progressive that has since fused into APC and regained his re-entry back into PDP fold, his original party. His return to PDP though was not without stiff opposition from few political maggots who have been parading themselves as snake in the absence of the Oshoko. He has since been the strongest singular opposition to the APC led government of Fayemi. No one has ever taken him seriously that he can make an impact, not even his co-party members who are equally eyeing the governorship ticket. A serving Minister (now former) once boasted he would win the primary election with landslide. Reverse is now the case with the former Police Affairs Minister just pulling meagre 7 votes. Another visible suicide of APC was it undemocratic practices that the party has been known for. I have not seen anywhere APC conducted primary election especially for governorhip elections in te past. It has always been hand picking by the Jagaban of South West. Opeyemi Bamidele who until recently was a strong member of APC, was by far more popular than the sitting governor Fayemi. It was almost certain that should there be a free and fair conduct of primary election for the party flag bearer in the state, notwithstanding the incumbent advantage enjoyed by Fayemi, MOB would have beaten him hands down. The intimidation, frustration of MOB that eventualy saw him leave APC for Labour Party exposed the poor tolerant culture of undemocratic principles by APC leadership. Without knowing these, covered and blinded by toga of arrogance of status by APC Mafiosi, the people of Ekiti felt disenchanted and resolved to do away with anything APC especially at the governorship level. Traditionally, Ekiti people dont easily retreat nor surrender in a war, they can only re-strategise. They must have done so by their resolve to vote for Fayose in June, 2014 governorship election. The post election reactions of the people in the state capital after the PDP rally on 22nd is a big testimony to Fayoses acceptance Recently, President told a delegation of PDP members from Kwara state that PDP is going to test his strength before 2015 general election, many didnt know that Ekiti is probably the test ground Mr. President is referring to. Ayo Fayoses emergence as PDP flag bearer has changed the political landscape of the State. It will take politician from te state to commit political suicide than to take the civil servants and the teaming populace for granted. In most cases, there is always a what I call unity in diversity among the electorates with different political background, educational level and material status to achieve a common front. The direction of the generality of the populace in Ekiti state when it comes to fighting oppression and injustice is mostly bandwagon like. If you like throw money around, if you like sew their garments with gold and if you like read the whole verses of Psalm and Islamic Dafiu from now till tomorrow, once Ekiti people say no to you, you are gone just before tomorrow. The frustrations that almost marred the peaceful conduct of the partys primary election couldnt have been without the unseen hands of APC, manipulating some disgruntled PDP members to work against Fayose, knowing fully well the tempo of his popularity. If the tone coming from the Ekiti people is any lyrics to dance to, then OSHOKOMOLE is almost sure of winning the June 2014 governorship election in the state. If only I had the traits of Nostradamus, I can gallantly say PDP (Fayose) will win the election and the APC (Fayemi) will cry foul and accuse PDP of rigging. Mark my words. MY ADVICE TO MR. PRESIDENT I am sure by now, you would have realised that the likes of Aborishade, Olubolade and the rest who have all come to gang up against Fayose to. discourage you from putting your confidence in him and look somewhere else are all arguments of envy against the Fayose from political rivals. A single candidate pulling 463 out of 470 total votes without presidential support isnt a fluke. That is a result of hard work and true popularity. Without any intent to rig or even an act of it, I can tell you with your strong support and belief in the cause, Fayose enjoys the love of 90% o Ekiti electorates and will surely will this election. If that happens, you can only imagine what good that will do for PDP in 2015 general elections and the blow it will throw to the opposition. Mr. President, conduct an independent and under cover poll on Fayoses popularity, you will be amazed what you will see. I can tell you authoritatively that Opeyemi Bamidele who is the flag bearer of Labour Party is presently mulling on allying with Fayose having been convinced that Fayoses popularity has soared astronomically beyond expectations. Mr. President, I can also confirm to you that in Ekiti State, if there is anyone that should be restless and sleepless now, it is the APC. Before now, they have always thought PDP might attempt to rig election in Ekiti (thinking they (APC) enjoy the popularity), but the feelers now is that, with the dwindling popularity of APC, they might attempt to rig the election. Dont forget, for the first time in so many months, APC just made a statement that they dont have confidence in INEC. That is blackmailing of the umpire in seeking public sympathy. It shows panicking! For these reasons, you may wish to kindly provide adequate security to prevent the election from being rigged by APC or anyone for that matter. The contest is now between PDP and APC. Let me reiterate that Im not particularly a politician neither am I a loyalist of any political party, Im just not in tune with hypocrisy. One basic philosophy I have enjoyed from PDP is, whether the anointed candidate will win or not, they always do conduct primaries which allow for level playing ground even though, may notice a few infinitesimal irregularities. This is against APC usual subversion of the same democratic tenet they spout to preach, mostly hand picking candidates without due process even against their own constitution. To me, the Mafia that exists in the so called progressive party is killing their internal democracy and discrediting their own value. Fayose might have been a victim of press stigmatisation lately, he might have been called different names by different people, the truth is, no one has been able to provide sustainable evidence on all these allegations. He might have been labelled a criminal by his political rivals, but at least, he has not been pronounced so by any competent court of law. As it stands, the only offence Fayose has committed was his stance against Obasanjos overbearing influences through his (Obasanjo) allies and proxies during Fayoses first term as the governor which led to his Kangaroo impeachment. Mr. President, as you hope, if PDP really needs to test its strength before 2015 against APC incursion, the party flag bearer in Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose must be strongly supported and encouraged without iota of scepticism, compromise nor discouragement. Listening to those who are only envious of the young mans achievements may be counter productive to the much anticipated victory in the 2015 general elections. Thank you
