According to the Backward Regions Grant Fund 2009–10, 13 backward districts are located in Andhra Pradesh: nine(9) (all except Hyderabad) are from Telangana and the rest are from other regions. The religious makeup of Telangana is 84% Hindu, 12.4% Muslim, and 3.2% Sikh, Christian, and others. Of the three regions of the state of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana has the largest area, with 114,800 square kilometres (44,300 sq mi). The Deccan plateau is drained by two major rivers, the Godavari and the Krishna. Some 69% of the Krishna River and some 79% of the Godavari River catchment area is in Telangana. Telangana is also drained by minor rivers such as Manair, Bhima, Dindi, Kinnerasani, Manjeera, Munneru, Moosi, Penganga, Praanahita, and Peddavagu and Taliperu.Two major rivers, Godavari and Krishna, flow through the area, but most of the land is ARID. Around 20% of the coal deposits of India are found in Telangana. The Singareni Collieries Company excavates coal for industrial purposes and for fueling power generating plants.
