ELGAR CENTURY HELPS KNIGHTS TO SHARE THE HONOURS Thursday, 21 November 2013 A BRISK century from Dean Elgar and an unbeaten fifty from Lefa Mosena gave the Chevrolet Knights a hard-earned share of the day one honours against the Chevrolet Warriors at Buffalo Park on Thursday. With Rusty Theron taking two wickets in two balls to reduce the Knights to 76 for four, the visitors were made to fight hard for a decent total after they had won the toss and elected to bat first. The Knights eventually accomplished that as they reached stumps on 307 for eight, with Mosena unbeaten on 67 and Quinton Friend not out on three. Elgar’s calm batting was the glue that held an otherwise inexperienced line-up together, as he shared in a 61-run stand for the second wicket with Rilee Rossouw and then a 113-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Werner Coetsee (40). The stand with Coetsee came after Rossouw had fallen to Simon Harmer and then Theron had trapped Rudi Second and Diego Rosier lbw with consecutive deliveries. Elgar was eventually bowled for 122 by Ayabulela Gqamane but, while Coetsee departed soon afterwards, Mosena kept the Knights innings ticking along. He put on 53 with Dillon du Preez for the eighth wicket and, although Du Preez was bowled by Andrew Birch shortly before stumps, Mosena survived to give the Knights an opportunity to kick on towards a significant score. Harmer spun his way through 31 overs on his way to figures of 2 for 84 and was the pick of the bowlers, while Theron finished with 2 for 63 from his 17 overs and Birch took 2 for 59.
