ELWAK: FOOD PRICES SKYROCKETS FOOD prices remain high in Elwak town since the Kenyan Military under the operation “Linda Nchi” entered Somalia. Local business people however said the KDF’s Somali operation has restored security in the region. “Prices of goods have really changed because we don’t do business the way we did before KDF came here,” said Abdi Ibrahihim. A 50 kilogram of maize flour sells at Sh1,300 up from Sh 1,100, a gallon of 2.5kg of powder milk trades at Sh1,300 up from Sh1,100.A pack of 25kg wheat flour is up by Sh200 to cost Sh1,200. A packet of cigarette sells at Sh95 up from Sh65, a stick of Sportsman cigarette goes for Sh5.B Smokers in this region are on a merry making holiday as the price of single and businesses in Mandera County remain successful with no taxes levied on operators
