JOB DESCRIPTION The mission of the Retail Manager is to provide effective management of retail stores by achieving and maintaining retail increases and margin goals, and following and enforcing all policies and procedures.The Retail Manager will contribute to the mission of Goodwill Industries by successfully providing leadership to the Retail Store. His/Her goal is to maximize revenue and net gain, while minimizing donated goods waste. In addition, the Retail Manager should focus on community relations, customer and associate satisfaction, store appearance, and financial results, while representing and promoting Goodwill in the community. The ideal candidate for this position will have a high school diploma or GED (required), three years of management experience, minimum five years of general retail or production experience, demonstrated customer service and communication skills, and demonstrated strong relationship skills. In addition, the Retail Manager must have telephone access and reliable transportation. The following is a list of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position: Managing Sales -- Develop and implement strategy to achieve monthly and yearly retail goals -- Increase retail per square foot through proper pricing and appropriate quantity and quality of merchandise -- Increase bottom-line contribution (revenue less expense) through retail program management and effective utilization of resources -- Properly price, display, and maintain merchandise -- Increase donations by serving donors through appropriate receiving, handling, and organizing donated goods Managing the Business -- Provide excellent customer service; train employees in customer service skills -- Maintain attractive retail presentation by proper colorization, cleanliness, retail layout, signage, displays, and appropriate supplies -- Interact with donors, customers, and the public in a professional manner -- Adhere to all safety standards; safety training in regularly scheduled retail meetings -- Maintain standard of layout of backroom to insure efficiency -- Complete and submit all accounting paperwork accurately and promptly to limit exposure to loss for assigned stores -- Ensure that cash is secured at all times -- Provide an appropriate environment for mission-related training employment services for Goodwill workforce development consumers Managing People -- Recruit, hire, train, and schedule employees to assure retail plan and production quotas -- Conduct timely and thorough performance evaluations of all retail associates -- Identify individuals performing below an acceptable level; follow-up with action plans, training and continued evaluation -- Develop and implement incentive and recognition programs for retail employees -- Communicate with retail employees by use of regularly scheduled retail meetings -- Reduce employee turnover by identifying and resolving problems -- Treat all employees fairly, equitably, and consistently -- Provide consistent information to the Vice President of Retail Operations regarding issues and potential problems -- Provide career opportunities for peak performers; develop the potential of retail associates -- Ensure employees fully understand expectations; discipline when appropriate -- Ensure employees fully understand the importance of a professional attitude and image, including attire REQUIREMENTS High school diploma/GED required and advanced education desired Minimum three years management experience Minimum five years of general retail or production experience Supervisory experience required Demonstrated customer service and communication skills, including training skills Demonstrated strong relationship management skills Must have telephone access and reliable transportation Pleasant, cheerful, professional demeanor required Reliable means of transportation to report to work on time
