When Kay/Valco Co. dissolved in 1969, Bob Engelhardt and Al Link bought the Kay assets at auction. The Kay name wasnt available to them, but they continued making the basses in the same Kay tradition in the same Chicago factory. With their Kay heritage, it wasnt surprising that Engelhardt basses quickly found favor among amateur as well as professional bluegrass bass players. This pampered example is a 1996 Model C-1.
