ENUGU POLITICS Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi emerged the PDP consensus candidate for 2015 governorship election following his endorsement by PDP stakeholders of the state loyal to Gov. Sullivan Chime. Political tension is high in the state because many guber aspirants like Rt.Hon Eugene Odo, Senator Ayogu Eze and their supporters who were on very expectations and hoped that Gov Sullivan would found them worthy for the post are really feeling disappointed and aggrieved with the new happening. Political observers are watching very closely as more trends are expected to unfold. Its of political interest to know that Enugu PDP is currently divided into two camps; those loyal to the incumbent governor and those loyal to deputy senate president. These factions emerged as a result of not being able to reach a specific agreement between the two recognised political powers several months ago. The situation has resulted in big division even in organising party programs and event; each faction does its things its won way. Last month CLEEN FOUNDATION released a report of pre-election security survey which places Enugu on a red colour in South East due to possible security threats arising from political activities in that state. Also, other political parties are harvesting from the divisions that occur in the state notably the United Progressive Party (UPP) has flooded the streets of Enugu with posters about the party and just yesterday Chief Chekwas Okorie-the party National Chairman visited Enugu for the partys stakeholder meeting and city-wide campaign/sensitization. More are yet to unfold as reactions are expected from the aggrieved politicians on the new situation about the emergence of the PDP consensus candidate. Stay tuned!
