BOARD TO APPROVE THE REGISTRATION OF CANDIDATES WITH PASS IN MATHEMATICS, ENGLISH AND LITERATURE IN ENGLISH. Due to the very paucity of the number of candidates who are registering as a result of the NUC Benchmark stipulations, barring those with Pass in English Language, Mathematics and Literature in English from registering, it has become imperative to request the Postgraduate Board to decide as follows: a) Those with 5 years of post First Degree & HND qualification to be allowed to register. b) The New Benchmark has been queried by the Committee of Deans of Nigerian Universities and, therefore, is still being reviewed. c) There were several errors and inconsistencies that would require its total implementation from being effective immediately. ACTION SOUGHT: The Board is called upon to approve a waiver, so that those with Pass in Mathematics, English Language and Literature in English with 5 year post First Degree/HND. with these short falls, can be registered. Candidates with a PGD at Credit Level Pass (i.e. 3.5 of 5.0 scale) or 60% on weighed percentage average. Ph. D. in Estate Management. Pg. 116 Candidates for admission to Ph. D. programmes should pursue it through: 1. Direct admission to Ph. D. programme; or 2. Through M. Sc. (M. Tech) Ph. D. programme. 1. Direct admission to Ph. D. programme: A Candidate must have academic M. Sc./M. Tech. Degree or equivalent in Estate Management with a minimum of 3.50 grade point average on a 5.0 point scale or 3.00 on the old 4 point scale. 2. Through M. Sc. (M. Tech)/Ph. D. programme: A candidate with First Class Honours Barchelor’s Degree in Estate Management from a recognized University may be admitted into a M. Sc. (M.Tech)/Ph.D. programme. The Candidate so admitted has two options. Namely: a) First (and Preferably), he/she could complete the M. Sc./M.Tech degree and pass it with a minimum of 3.50 GPA on 5.0 scale or 3.00 on the old 4 point scale. b) The candidates general performance could be evaluated after the first two smesters of being on the M. Sc./M. Tech/Ph. D. pogramme and if he/she makes a GPA of 3.50 or above in the coursework and shows sufficient ability for research work at Ph. D level, Senate, on the recommendation of the Departmental and Faculty Postgraduate Studies Committees and the Board of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Senate may approve that the candidate proceeds to the Ph.D. programme without fully completing the Master’s programme. Quantity Surveying: Admission Requirements. Pg. 219 & 220 PGD. : At least a B. Sc. Degree in Quantity Surveying, Building, Architecture and Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) from any Nigerian University or any other recognized degree awarding institution. Departmental and PG School requirements. Professional Master’s Degree Programmes. a) At least a second class honours degree in Quantity Surveying from any Nigerian or other recognized degree-awarding institution. b) A third class honours degree in any of the Built environment disciplines and a postgraduate diploma in Quantity Surveying, with a weighted average of not less than 50% from Nigerian or other recognized institution. c) At least an HND (Upper Credit minimum) from any Nigerian Diploma Awarding Institution and a current registration of the Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN); Academic Master’s Degree in Quantity Surveying: a) At least a Second-class B.Sc./B. Tech. Degree in Quantity Surveying obtained from any Nigerian University or any other recognized institution. b) Satisfy all departmental and Postgraduate School requirements. M. Phil. In Quantity Surveying: a) Masters Degree (M. Sc./M. Tech) in Quantity Surveying with a weighted Average of not less than 60% from any Nigerian or recognized institution. b) An M. Sc. In construction Management or equivalent with a GPA of at least 2.79 in the grading system in use before 1990/91 or 4.00 in the grading system after the 1990/91 session; Ph. D. Degree in Quantity Surveying: a) Master’s Degree (M. Sc/M. Tech) in Quantity Surveying with a weighted Average of not less than 60% from any Nigerian or recognized institution. b) An M. Phil in construction management or equivalent; c) An M. Sc. In construction Management or equivalent with a GPA of at least 2.79 in the grading system in use before 1990/91 or 4.00 in the grading system after the 1990/91 session. Satisfy Departmental and Postgraduate School requirement. FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES: Pg. 2 & 3 Postgraduate Diploma (PGD): a) Five Credit passes including English Language and Mathematics at the O’Level. b) Relevant Bachelor’s Degrees not lower than Third Class Division. c) Bachelor’s Degrees with at least Second Class Lower Division in areas not related to Administration may be considered. d) Relevant professional qualification. Master’s Degree: *Provided the University’s Matriculation requirements are satisfied. a) Degree in relevant area from a recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division. b) A Postgraduate diploma at upper credit level in relevant area from a recognized University. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree: Provided that the university’s matriculation requirements are satisfied. a) Relevant Master’s degree with at least an average of B grade (60%) which includes course work and research thesis from a recognized university. FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Pg. 2 PGD: - Matriculation requirement of individual University which must be five (5) 0’Level Credits including English Language with either of the following. 1. A candidate with at least 3 rd class degree in related field. 2. HND holders with a minimum of Upper Credit from recognized institution may also be considered. Masters (M.Sc) Programme: Pg. 6 1. Matriculation requirement of individual Universities which must be five 0’Level credits including English Language. 2. Candidates with at least 2 nd class lower division Bachelors Degree. 3.
