EPHESIANS (53) However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. -- Eph 5:33 The sin of Adam and Eve messed things up for all of humanity, especially for families. Marriage can be tough. Basically, the problem is the Curse and the solution is the Verse. The curse: God told Eve, ... Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you. (Gen 3:16). God told Adam, Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you... (Gen 3:17-18). Broadly speaking (please dont take that as a pun), women are tormented by their relationships, and not just with husbands. Men, in turn, are frustrated by their work. The verse (above): When a man loves his wife, it helps alleviate the effects of the curse on her relationships. When a woman respects her husband, it helps alleviate the frustration of his work. In both cases, the hurting spouse is made to feel his/her worth. This lovely old song comes pretty close to expressing the essence of the true love of a man for a woman:
