ERASMUS summer school on FORmation of Multi-disciplinary Approaches to Training in Earth Observation (FORMAT-EO) University of Leicester, United Kingdom Objectives and Overview of the Summer School FORMAT-EO aims to increase student awareness and exposure to Earth Observation research and industry, whilst also encouraging interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches to solve Earth Observation problems. The school will include practical experience of using specialist software and tools for the analysis of satellite data complemented by lectures relating to Earth Observation topics, careers information and an industry visit. Topics of the course aim to show the breadth of subjects within Earth Observation Science and include satellite instrumentation, land cover classification, remote sensing of fires and space policy. The course will offer 40 students from undergraduates to PhD students a number of distinct features : 1) Give students exposure to the wider applications of EO; 2) Highlight the interdisciplinary, collaborative and international nature of EO; 3) Provide intensive training to equip students with specialist skills (analytical, programming, use of specialist software) required for a career in this field of research/industry; 4) Provide expert advice on the development of careers in the EO market.
