ERIC BUNNELLS PEOPLE: Monument unveiled in Port Stanley to honour victims of Olga tour boat tragedy . . . Closure isnt a word Port Stanley historian FRANK PROTHERO prefers. “Its never closed,” he says of the past. “It may fade a bit.” So, not closure on Saturday afternoon in Port, where about 45 people gathered to dedicate a monument on Main Beach near the west pier. They included members of four families of the 17 victims of the Olga tour boat tragedy who drowned when the tour boat capsized June 4, 1944 off the breakwater. Not closure. But, perhaps, a completion of unfinished business as NANCY PROTHERO read the names of the 17, with the toll of a bell memorializing each name. The Olga was one of Elgins worst tragedies. But the story soon was swept off the front pages of history by the momentous news of the D-Day invasion two days later. Full column here bit.ly/1itAPNo
