ESE Phrase of the Day “That’s life!” In informal English, we use this to passively dismiss some of the negative or unfortunate things that occur on a daily basis. Example 1: A:“My colleague is younger and less experienced than me, but she gets paid more than I do.” B:“That’s life!” Example 2: A:“I spent all week preparing my presentation. Then my boss decided he didn’t need it any more.” B: “That’s life!”
