ESFNA 1 Woyane 0 As I have done it before, I am sharing my personal opinion on the 2013 ESFNA event. I was very interested particularly about the outcome of the event since the ESFNA was challenged with other similar event sponsored by Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al Amoudi. The 2013 events were centered with two major themes. They were Ethiopiawinet and Money Power. The Money power event was organized in hoping to buy participants at any cost which was organized by AESAONE, the factional of ESFNA in Washington DC. The second event was organized by the ESFNA in Maryland. Both events had similar start and end dates which started on June 30th and ended on July 7th. Many people talked about these identical events with different objectives. What are the objectives? ESFNA’s mission and objectives are clearly stated on its website as “The Ethiopian Sports Federation in North America (ESFNA), founded in 1984, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promote the rich Ethiopian culture and heritage as well as build positive environment within Ethiopian-American communities in North America. Its mission is bringing Ethiopians together to network, supporting the business community, empowering the young by providing scholarships and mentoring programs, primarily using soccer tournaments, other sports activities and cultural events as a vehicle.” ESFNA has kept its promises and served the North America community by preserving the Ethiopian culture and values for thirty years. Thank you ESFNA for such accomplishment! In the 2013 ESFNA gathering in Maryland Ethiopians flooded like a snow storm in the Byd stadium (the University of Maryland stadium). Our flag was raised high with high honor, love and respect. Our culture looked very rich with unforgettable various cultural dances at the Ethiopian day. The food and beverage service with traditional and modern clothing were displayed around the stadium. In short, Ethiopianwnnet was indeed preserved and cherished. These wonderful things have been possible due to the determined and committed leaders of the ESFNA Executive committee and board of directors along with all of the participating clubs. ESFNA needs our unconditional support since it is challenged by Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al Amoudi. Ethiopiawinet has been challenged by Woyane and its networks inside and outside of Ethiopia. However, ESFNA survived the woyane poisonous politics and served our community for thirty great years. In the other side, Woyane infiltrated ESFNA and divided the great ESFNA in to two. The splinter ESFNA calling itself as AESAONE held its 2nd year event in DC. AESAONE’s mission as we all know is to maintain the superiority of Woyane in the Diaspora with the help of the wealthiest man in the world. Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al Amoudi is the main sponsor of AESAONE. Why a successful person would really deal with empty stadium? It is because he is so determined making sure the hidden agenda of TPLF in the Diaspora is maintained. The Sheikh has to do everything to preserve the superiority of Woyane over our people. The sheikh thinks he can purchase Ethiopiawinet and Ethiopians with MONEY power. But as the saying goes “money does not buy happiness” or money cannot buy everything for that matter. It was a great embarrassment for Woyane and AESAONE particularly for Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al Amoudi. Such embarrassment has to continue for Woyane and Co with our full participation with ESFNA. If you agree with me, please let ESFNA be appreciated and give them the encouragements. Let them know Ethiopians are with ESFNA. With this I will also mention few improvements that ESFNA needs to take care in the future. • Sound system at the stadium has to be improved • Less speech in the stadium • Have more activities for minors • Ethiopian Day has to be the top show of the week with one or two know singers playing • Exit/entrance procedures must be well planned • Have volunteers participate in the whole event to help with some gaps Other than these, I simply say ESFNA has done a great job and we all should thank them. ESFNA has done its best despite of the obstacles it faced. We are all proud!
