German chancellor Angela Merkel demanded once again the release of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko from prison and urged Kiev to take “credible steps” to overcome politically motivated “selective justice”. The Yanukovych-led government wanted to sign an Association Agreement with the EU but Brussels set several conditions. In addition to Tymoshenko’s release and judicial reform, Ukraine’s electoral legislation had to be changed. [1]
