EU flood chaos continues: River cruise lines, which have been hard hit by heavy rains and flooding in Central Europe, are altering their scheduled itineraries. The latest changes include: Uniworld River Cruises: The line has cancelled its June 7 cruise of River Ambassador and the June 9 sailing of River Beatrice. Impacted passengers will receive a full refund and a future cruise credit of US$500 (R4 991). Uniworld has also cancelled its June 16 sailing of the River Empress. Passengers can opt to rebook another date or receive a full refund. They will also be compensated with a US$500 (R4 991) per person for a future cruise credit. Passengers who are currently cruising and have had their cruises cancelled mid-sail will also receive a full refund and future cruise credit. They can elect to remain on board while the line helps them make arrangements to return home. For more details refer to uniworldcruises.co.za/important-notice Avalon Waterways: The cruise line has cancelled Austrian Highlights & Bavaria (June 10); an 18-day Grand Danube cruise from Bucharest to Prague (June 8); and a 13-day Blue Danube Discovery from Budapest to Prague (June 13). See amawaterways/ for detailed updates. Meanwhile, Budapest has been put on high alert as the River Danube’s water levels reached record highs threatening to flood the city. Hotels situated on the banks of the river have stacked sandbags outside the buildings. In Hungary a state of ‘extreme danger’ was called by authorities, which is likely to last throughout the week as waters are expected to recede slowly. In eastern Germany a dam has broken on the Elbe River forcing people to evacuate their homes around Magdeburg. - TNW
