EUROPEAN UNION ISSUES A TRAVEL BAN AGAINST JOYCE BANDA AFTER READING NTATAS “LICENCE TO LOOT” Frothing anger and fury, Malawi President Joyce Banda has assembled a team of slanderers led by Reverend Malani Ntonga and given it MK25 million to embark on a smear campaign against London- based barrister and anti-corruption specialist Z Allan Ntata in a bid to discredit his future reports now considered a big threat to the survival of Joyce Bandas regime. Until the publication of “License to Loot”, Banda had been a beacon of hope and a darling to the west. Now tables have been turned by Ntatas vivid account of the looting activities at capital hill to the effect that Banda is now being considered the most powerful thief in the world. What is scaring Banda is the fact that more and more disclosures are expected to be forth coming. In “Licence to Loot”, Ntata reveals the Cashgate looting structure and describes how the looting was done and conducted including the back up plan to cover up the presidentially sanctioned looting. Among others involved in the structure was the Reserve Bank Governor Charles Chuka, who refused to resign after parliament called for his head. Meanwhile in a recent development, one of the looters –Leonard Kalonga, has mentioned Chuka in his sworn affidavit as his looting colleague. Kalonga went further to name several top government officials as his witnesses and called for their arrest. Given the impact and reach of the report, however, it is clear that whatever plans Bandas team of “Axe-men” will come up with against Ntata, they will not be able to undo the damage done by “License to Loot”. In any case, their smear campaign is unlikely to help lift the travel blockade issued against Joyce Banda who is now considered a savage thief by the west. Calls to both State House Press officer Steve Nhlane and Malani Mtonga for their comment on the matter went unanswered.
