EVENT WRITE-UP: Mellow Nights/ Melon Nights is Cancelled turned - TopicsExpress

EVENT WRITE-UP: Mellow Nights/ Melon Nights is Cancelled turned out to be a great group family campout for 60 or so Salt Lake & Moabi Janksters down at the Jenkstar Ranch last weekend. Added to the mix were a few Chicago-based Burners fresh from Black Rock and a gaggle of Danish outdoor-sports Ninjas flavoring us with bonus international flair! With a waaaaaaay less formal production package and super no-frills approach to camping, costumery, and entertainment, this turned out to be one of the most social and spontaneous Jenk throwdowns ever. Lots of story telling. Lots of lounging in camp chairs. Lots of on-the-fly silly fun. Even a well attended sunny midday blanket kirtan/ yoga combo. There was a high feeling of comraderie, tomfoolery, and chillaxicillian circulating around the ranch and at the beach. A Few Highlights and Observations: 1) A FOMO FREE EVENT! (FOMO = Fear of Missing Out). With only so many of us there and only a few things going on at once, nobody missed out on anything. There was rarely any sense of: i think i need to leave this really cool thing that im at, and check it whats going on around the corner that i hope is better than here, even though when i actually got there it was worse than what i left behind. Everybody was right where they were supposed to be at any given moment. Kumbayaa! 2) Carrie Eldredge rocked one of the singularly best commemorative festi-jewelry Jenk-Blings EVER!!! out of pennies flattened by an Eastbound Train! Hand etched and looped into a colored mystery dreadlock wookie cord! High LEVEL GIFTING! 3) Pioneering a future-retro pop trend, Moses, Tanner, and Scotty each sported a unique angle on the once thought dead Mullet/Skullet hairstyle. Stay tuned for future developments. 4) Saturdays beachside, hand-cranked, Melon Juice afternoon super-sess was smash success. [High in Lycopene, important for cardiovascular and bone heath, shared by all] 4b) Abbie Jean Moore brought two Stand-Up Paddleboards which made everybody turn heads and watch for more than a few seconds. I even gave my try at the new pastime and, despite years of busting on the activity from afar, actually thought the activity was super cool! lol. KuumbayFnYaya! Coming soon...Paddleboards made from Jenk! 5) Lego the Movie [on outdoor bigscreen!] prequelled Saturday night partying with over half the Jenkstars attending!. The films climax revolves around a creative outside-the-box-master-builder kid constructing essentially a Jenkified supership which overthrows his overly rigid Dads Lego Fiefdom. Live Free Lego Jenk Wins Always! 6) With Soltron backbeats, David Giaradelli lightshow, and renegade fire torches belching forth from a neighboring BurniBus: Coulson, Pauly, and a mystery third Jenkster performed a low flying, fulcrum-flaunting, flip-a-liscious circus show Saturday night down by Ye ole SolLun campfire. Flaming teeterboards and mobile oildrum wobbles mixed with splintering, shattering equipment which was being destroyed almost as fast as replacement parts were rummaged from nearby pilesOjenk. Even PiMo jumped into the youthful fray and pulled a small 2 footed weeblewobb! These willynilly balancing acts were spontaneously executed without any single move performed correctly nor without injury, adding to the entertainment hijinks. A Classic Big Ass Jenkasuarus Booyah for the Ages! 6b) Diesel-Fueled, Flaming Watermelon bowling was a success/a mini-disaster! 7) The DOGS of Jenkstar: Miniaturization is happening as more and more smallish canines appear on the scene. This may be amplified by the possible future absence of the half dog/half bison/half mega-faunal giant mammal, ATLAS, which Coulson suggests may not be able to handle the desert heat and dust anymore waaaaaaah :(:( 7b) C-Bot may be dying. Rumors ranged from him slowly disintegrating into foam bits to him being secretly reconstructed at a Salt Lake droid rehab for an epic re-emergence at Buildingman2015! 8) Jared Gerald Galardos stolen generator was turned into Jenk Art! 9) A few even headed into town briefly to enjoy the traditionally folksy town fair: Melon Days! Karen Taylor Johnson and Kiersten Shaw returned sporting these unique handsewn, country-bumpkin aprons, which they jenkily converted into buttflap-halfskirts! 10) Defying yet again, all definitions of Green River being theoretically located in a desert, semi-Massive rainstorms hit the Ranch twice, [Sat PM & Sun PM], liquifying the Earth into GoopCentral for a few hours. Fortunately winds were low, but the continuing presence of unlikely storms over the years lends me to believe that the Jenkstars may exist as a weather control collective. We could collect high fees from any drought stricken area to conduct future events in their region. 10b) Dre pulled a few high speed schoolbus donuts in the post-storm mud. wootdeedoot. 10c) And Nobody Died. Nobody Ascended/Walked into a Fire/ ODed/Fell off an Art Car. Repeat: Nobody Died. 10) Recurring theme throughout the weekend = Drink some Swill, Eat a Pickle. 11) etc... Infrastructure /Site Developments: After over 2 years, the massive footprint EarthScars of Desert Rocks 2012 are slowly shrinking. Formerly impacted soils are being recolonized by the hardy desert plants which are burly enough to survive the Marcos Shale. Long Live Pipeweed! Behind the scenes with nobody looking, Scotty installed a windmill and Saucys old solar array to provide on site electric power for Quality sound and light. This is a great upleveling in energy generation that is not dependent on Big Blue and The Solar Saucer being present (although they will continue to appear!) Despite all odds, and as one of the oldest and slowest Jenkstars, PiMo (with a bit of Coulie and Glenzos assistance) erected a low tech, highly wind resistant shade structure out of a freestanding tipi pole tripod, a used parachute, and watermelon colored p-cord! Total construction time = only 30 minutes. This Wiki-Chute meets a maximum effect with minimum input approach to Jenk Technologies. Although a ghost camp for part of the weekend, it did withstand all storms unattended, provided quality shade for a few conversations over coffee, and eventually Glenzo did manage to take a nap in it. PiMo also displayed nearby, 3 of his Oceanic ARTifact Ecologic Jenk Art pieces [Captain Kids Pistol & Flower, Atlantean SpearGun with Flower, and Meloliscious Melon] on a freshly broken camp chair. We almost escaped the ranch without doing any HeavyWork at all for the whole weekend, but Monday morning, just as us last 13 were ready to hit the beach one last time, Scotty wangles us into an earthbag/cobb building, jenkdome moving 2 hour Supersession which was way productive, mega-fun, and super mucky. Building is so much easier when everybody is just part of it all, mixing and climbing, and group lifting, and collaborating. It doesnt really feel like work at all. It feels more like... ... ... ... The Way.... ..... ........ ............... so, The Dome Earthbag Foundation is completed, now ready and steady for its skin to be built. The Pizza Oven has been reinforced. The Shower has a few touchups. the Tool Shed, now Bomber! next up...Bombproof the Mercantile...Build Better Open Air Shade...Uplevel Jenkart...Increase Electrical Storage onsite Scotty stayed until Thursday Morning, and with an onsite backhoe jumpstarted using the tips of a welded CrownOjenk, did quite a bit of EarthMoving, Pond Digging, Berm Berthing, and other much needed and often unseen/overlooked unglamorous grunt work. Based on our recent phone discussion, Scotty loved every minute of the building time. He must run on some internal energy system that generate stamina, determination, strength, and fortitude... his cell structures have internal solar panel power boosts. Next year Scotty really wants to bring more builder types to the Jenkstar to learn Cobb Construction and Alternative Energy Systems. Well still keep the high level creative, community of Jenkstars going as an supportive artist collective, but we also gotta keep building and fine-tuning the site for optimal and evolving use. We also want to make a call out to Artists Abroad to build or transport their built work to the Jenkstar for spring Buildingman and have it join the slowly growing micro-playa of pretty epic Installations. Sunset Sunday night, Glenzo and wandered past the WickerEgg, the Wooden Dome, and the soon to be erected ShrineOShrine and felt like WoW...theres some really nice art pieces here on the landscape. Great people here too yeah. Wow, oh so fleeting in time, but glad to be here. I also pitch to the greater Jenkstar community that there can be meaningful and long lasting healing between the Utah and West Coast factions. Back to our everyday lives, exciting and mundane in alternating swirls... till the next time... See yalls in the spring -- PiMo Like
