EVIL SPIRIT OR HOLY SPIRIT As Jesus was performing miracles, healing and casting out devils, the Pharisees accused him of using the power of Beelzebub, the chief of devils, Matt. 12:24. All the people watching the miracles were amazed but the Pharisees. Although they were being mischievous they must had seen Beezebub manifested his voodoo powers in like manner. This is incident is a confirmation that Satan has the power to perform wonders and miracles. The Bible confirms this by saying that on the days, we shall witness the manifestations of the spirit of Satan through his ministers in miracles and wonders that if it were possible even the elect would be deceived. Matt. 24:24) The implications of this is that, in the last days the whole world would be deceived, (Rev 12:9) with the exception just a few elect. In view of this, the Bible cautions us to be vigilant and test every spirit to see if they are of God, 1John 4:1 . How do we test every spirit? The only instrument we can use, is the Bible and our example, is the life of Jesus and his early disciples. In this article, I will like us to test and examine the spirits that are operating in some of our Church today with a view to see if they are of God. In Eph 2:2, the Bible talks about a certain spirit that now operate in some people. That is why, we must be careful. Follow me as I use the Bible to uncover the spirits that manifest in most of todays churches. The Bible says that the whole creation wait earnestly for the manifestations of the children of God, Rom. 8:19. The same Bible also warns us that there would be explosions of evil machinations and manifestation shortly before the coming of Jesus. Strange happenings in todays churches is a confirmation that we are in the last of the last days. EVIL CONSCIOUS CHURCH We are living in a time in the church when Christians are more conscious of evil spirits than ever before. Attend any prayer meeting of a pentecostal or evangelical church, you will understand what I am talking about. Deliverance of Christians from evil spirits has taken a center stage in the church. The Catholics and the Protestants are also caught in it. Prayer meetings have been turned to battle fields where Christians go to wrestle with the Devil and evil spirits. Like boxing rings fists are thrown to imaginary demons and commanded to fall down and die. During prayer sessions, you will find people at different hilarious strategic positions, screaming, shouting, moaning, groaning, struggling, falling and rising just to get the attention of God. The God who must be invoked trough noise-making and abrcadabra before answering prayers can not be the Almighty. This kind of prayer can only be attributed the worshipers of Baal as recorded in 1st Kings 18, When they encountered Elijah. FORCE CONFESSIONS If you want to listen to confessions of how evil spirits operate, go to church. If you want to know how witches and wizards and occults manifest, go to church. I even learnt evil spirits can change hosts in the Church during deliverance prayers. Nowadays, Some churches have confessions rooms. In these rooms, like police cell, suspects of evil spirit possessions are kept and forced to make confessions. Some of them are even tortured into making such confessions which are later used as open testimony. Sometime ago, it was in the news that Bishop Oyedepo of Winners Chapel slapped a girl in public for confessing that she was a witch for Christ. It is a tip of the iceberg of how suspects of evil spirits are maltreated in the hands of some men of God. Some bizarre things are really happening in our churches, today. How can God disgrace a person who needs deliverance before delivering the person in grace? DELIVERANCE In church parlance, deliverance means being set free from Satanic possessions and manipulations. It is believed that every Christian, after becoming born-again needs deliverance in order to be spiritually scanned, purged and immunized against evil spirits. As a result churches now have deliverance ministers and prayer warriors who are trained in special schools of deliverances with certificates of attendants to conduct deliverances. The deliverance sessions are usually chaotic, shambolic and violent. During deliverance prayers, many people go into trance-like frenzy. They fall and roll on the floor supposedly under the power of the Holy Spirit. In todays churches, when people receive the Holy Spirit, they tremble, shake, collapse and role on the floor screaming Fire! Fire!! Fire!! Stuttering out some gibberish, mumbo jumbo noise! But from the Bible, we know these are manifestations of evil spirits. At Matt. 9:20, a man possessed of evil spirits was brought before Jesus, immediately the man saw Jesus, the evil spirits threw him down. So, it is evil spirits that throw people down not the Holy Spirit. The Bible tells us on the other hand, that the Holy Spirit is a gentle and peaceful Spirit. When He came on Jesus, He was as calm and harmless like a dove. When the Holy Spirit came on the disciples in Acts, the Bible says it rested upon them like cloves of fire. It was not real fire . It was symbolic. But in todays churches, the Holy Spirit is equated with real fire. The invocation of Holy Ghost fire to burn and consume people or perceived is unscriptural. When the Holy Spirit possess people, He gives them soothing comfort. That is why He is called the comforter, John 16:17. He puts peoples lives in order, not in disarray. He is not violent or unruly. The believers who received the Holy Spirit in Acts of Apostles, prophesied and spoke new languages. Evil Spirits Possession Most Christians today, especially women, go every now and the for deliverance prayers. It has been programed into their psyche that the only way their problems would be solved is through deliverance from Some sort of perceived evil spirits. But the truth is that those who receive the Holy Spirit, can not be possess of evil by evil spirits. All those who manifested evil spirits in the Bible were not children of God. They were possessed by such spirits before they met Christ. I am yet to read in the Bible where the apostles conduct deliverance services for the disciples. The problem of the early disciples was not evil spirits but physical persecution. The Bible says that Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children. A child of God can not be possess of the Spirit of Satan and God at the same time. Can light and darkness co-habit? What is practiced in todays churches is pure exorcism. Deliverance services are sham - a manifestation of satanic manipulations. Pastors make it look as if the Spirit of God is engaging evil spirits in combat? The Holy Spirit will not struggle or fight to cast out demons? Some men of God even use their hands as remote control to conduct deliverances. You are either a child of God or a child of the Devil. You either have the Spirit of God or of the Devil. What qualifies one to be a child of God is the Spirit of God that dwells in that person. Deliverance Hospitals Churches now have deliverance hospitals to admit their members who need deliverances. Before deliverances are conducted, the patients are made to buy prayer books and hand bills, which they memorize and repeat from time before being delivered. What surprises me is that most of the attendees are members of the church who claim to be born-again. This is a clear case of biblical ignorance which Christians suffer because of lack of knowledge. Paul says at Galacians 5:1 that We should not allow ourselves to be put into bondage again after that Christ has set us free. If Christ has set you free, you are free indeed.
