EXCERPT (from PHOENIX BK 1) - A little Seth & Jamie ;) Ill have the book to you soon :) got a little delayed :/ ____________________________ Seth remained lost in his thoughts and jumped when Grid nudged the bed with a firm foot. “Hey, you got a visitor.” The amusement in Grid’s voice grabbed Seth’s instant attention. Grinding his eyes with his palms, Seth blinked and sat forward. His pulse kicked up a few notches when he noticed Jamie lingering in the doorway. “I’ll make myself scarce,” Grid grinned and winked at Jamie then vacated the room. “I didn’t know you were still…” Jamie’s soft eyes caressed Seth’s bare chest. “Um…that you were still in bed. I can come back…” He motioned to the hall and drew back. “You don’t…” Seth hesitated; was it a good idea for Jamie and him to be alone right now – with Seth in bed wearing only his shorts? Already, just looking at the boy, he was beginning to feel the effects down south. And there was no mistaking the sudden quickness of Jamie’s breathing. Seth cleared his throat. “You don’t have to go.” He rubbed his hand slowly across his mouth and shifted beneath the blankets. “Did you need something…specific?” “I, uh…” Jamie glanced out into the hall then at Seth. “You can come all the way in,” Seth smiled. “And close the door.” Jamie entered and slowly pushed the door shut behind him. He didn’t move any closer to the bed and looked extremely nervous. “What is it?” Seth asked. Jamie fidgeted and finally moved to the end of the bed. A short footboard ran the width of the mattress and Jamie rested his fingertips on it. “I wanted to talk to you about last night,” he said quietly, voice uneven. He avoided Seth’s direct gaze. “The stuff that happened…” he shrugged and tightened his lips. “I know that you’re just coming out of a relationship and…and maybe last night wasn’t as serious as it appeared.” He licked his lips slowly and met Seth’s stare fleetingly. “For you, I mean.” He looked away. “I like you, Seth,” he whispered. “A lot. But I don’t want to start thinking things are one way if…they’re not.” The boy’s throat worked and he stared at his hands, his fingertips playing against the wooden footboard. Seth gazed at his face, his downcast eyes so afraid to look at Seth for fear of seeing a truth he didn’t want to accept. Seth surveyed his body, clad in snug clothes that accentuated his nicely built frame. His gaze came to rest on Jamie’s hands as he recalled how they felt on his body, the tenderness in their touch, the eagerness and desire and…adoration. Was that how Horatio’s hands felt to Max? Almost as if he were being worshipped by the other man through touch? Jamie cleared his throat and exhaled a shaky breath. His eyes remained on his hands. “I just need to know, Seth,” he said thickly. “The truth. You don’t have to lie to me to save my feelings. If last night didn’t mean anything to you…” he faltered as his voice strained with emotion and a dampness wet his dark lashes. “Then just be honest about it. I can…I can go back to being invisible. I’m good at that.” His voice was starting to shake, his lashes growing thick with tears. “I won’t bother you.” His chin trembled and he blinked rapidly but it did little to dispel the rising tears. “I promise.” His heart pounding, vision blurring, Seth crawled forward and knelt at the end of the bed. He cupped Jamie’s face and lifted his chin. “You will never be invisible again,” Seth said softly and traced his thumb over Jamie’s soft lips. “Not to me. Not ever again.” He kissed him tenderly and whispered, “Last night meant something to me, Jamie.” He rubbed his lips softly on Jamie’s mouth. “You mean something to me.” He touched his head to Jamie’s brow and slid his fingers through his soft dark hair. “I was kind of hoping that last night might be the start of something…real good.” Jamie trembled. “Me, too.” Seth smiled and kissed him again, drawing him into his arms and over the short footboard onto the bed. He laid him down and kissed him then murmured, “I wanted so bad to make love to you last night.” He gazed at the young man. “I want to right now. But,” he added before Jamie could reply, “I don’t want to rush it. And I want it to be special.” He brushed his fingers down Jamie’s cheek. “One thing I learned during my time away…is that when you care for someone…you cherish them, savor them, and above all let them know without a doubt that their heart is your treasure, and the physical stuff…it’s just icing on an already beautiful, delicious cake.”
